In Hard Economic Times, UHW-SEIU Members are Winning Big!

United in UHW-SEIU, hospital workers are winning big in these uncertain times--fighting layoffs and winning new contracts. Just take a look...

Raises, Rewards, Respect for UHW Members in Modesto

UHW-SEIU members who work for Hospital Housekeeping Systems at Tenet's Doctor's Medical Center of Modesto just won BIG improvements to pay, benefits, and respect on the job in their new contract. This is our FIRST contract with HHS, yet members won raises of 3.5 to 7.5 percent, a wage scale to reward experience, call-in pay, new shift differentials, and improvements to the call-off and cancellation system, and more.

Staying Strong and United to Fight Layoffs

Many healthcare workers think of our jobs as "recession-proof," but because of the economic downturn, many hospitals are cutting patient care staff. At both Providence St. Joseph Medical Center (Burbank) and Encino Medical Center (Encino), UHW-SEIU members stood strong when management announced layoffs. By sticking together and enforcing our contract, we were able to get our members back to work full-time, and got administrative pay for many--to help fill in the gaps while we fought for these jobs.
