Good News Comes in Threes: Stanford Workers OK Contract, Sutter Roseville Members Stick with SEIU-UHW, Kaiser Picket Kick-off Video Debuts

Workers at Sutter Roseville Vote to Keep SEIU-UHW as their Union

SEIU-UHW members at Sutter Roseville Medical Center stood up in the face of management threats, interrogation, and harassment and voted to keep SEIU-UHW as their union. While members were working to negotiate a new contract for the 600 workers at Sutter Roseville, management got behind an attempt to decertify the union. But the workers stood up to the well funded anti-union campaign, in which management hired union-busting consultants to hold anti-union meetings, put out misleading flyers, and had supervisors try to intimidate workers.

"We know we are stronger when we are united. We sent a message that we want to keep our union so we can protect our jobs and keep the strong voice we need to stand up for the highest quality patient care," said Ramona Davidson, a Food Service Assistant at Sutter Roseville Medical Center for 28 years.

Stanford Hospital Members Ratify Contract

After years without a contract, SEIU-UHW members at Stanford Hospital and Lucille Packard Children's Hospital have voted overwhelmingly to ratify a new contract. The agreement covers 1,450 workers at the Palo Alto facilities, and includes annual four percent pay increases, fully paid Kaiser and Blue Cross PPO healthcare options and gains in retiree healthcare.

"After months of tough negotiations - and early proposals from management that were unacceptable - we have voted overwhelmingly to approve our new two‐year contract," said Linda Cornell, who serves on the SEIU-UHW bargaining team. "This contract will help keep experienced healthcare workers at Stanford, so that our patients will continue to receive the quality care they deserve.
