97% vote to approve agreement that lifts wages and benefits, improves work environment
SEIU-UHW members at John Muir Medical Center voted overwhelmingly (97 percent in favor) to ratify a strong new contract that increases their wages and benefits. The new four-year contract covers over 440 members and will also ensure important workplace improvements.
"We were able to win this contract because we stood united within SEIU-UHW" Said Vicky Boykin, HIM Clerk at the facility. "It's a tough world out there, with millions of people unemployed, but we were able to protect our jobs, make major improvements in the workplace, and even win raises."
Because of their unity and strength, they were able to remain strong and achieve a great contract, which includes:
- Increased Wages by a total of 10.5% over four years (prior wages were among highest in area)
- More Paid Time Off and increased Bereavement Leave
- New 10-Year Step for all Members - which will begin in 3rd year of agreement
- Increase to Premium Pay
- Stronger Protections Against Erroneous Call-Offs
"While so many people are losing jobs everywhere, we're proud that we negotiated more than 10% in raises over the next four years" said Nenita de Leon, Unit Secretary at John Muir. "We kept our wages above other hospitals in the area and we protected all of our benefits. This is a great contract and I am impressed by what we were able to accomplish together as a strong union."
