Joint Announcement from SEIU-UHW and Kaiser Permanente

The following joint announcement was issued by Kaiser Permanente and SEIU-UHW on Oct. 14, 2009:

The leadership of Kaiser Permanente Northern California and SEIU-UHW are pleased to announce that on October 12, representatives from KP and an elected committee of SEIU-UHW members, met to discuss implementation of the placement process and related issues as a result of the position elimination notices of August 11, 2009. We appreciate the spirit of engagement which was demonstrated by all of the attendees. As a result, we have agreed to the following:

  • SEIU-UHW has formed a Northern California Regional Oversight Committee of elected members who will represent SEIU-UHW on matters related to the administration of agreements and other changes related to the individual notices. Representatives of this committee were in attendance and will be communicating updates to fellow SEIU-UHW bargaining unit members.

  • The termination of On-Call employees is on hold pending further discussion over the coming weeks. This group of employees, who were originally scheduled to be released on October 12, 2009, will continue their employment as discussions continue.

  • Employees who are affected by the position eliminations will have an extension of the deadline to decide whether to take the ATP severance or remain at KP to look for another position. The date has been extended to December 1, 2009 from October 19, 2009. The transition period will still end on August 10, 2010. This extension allows affected employees more time to take advantage of the resources available to them in the placement and bidding process for other KP positions, as well as to work through placement processes with the union.

We remain committed to working together during these challenging times. Our Unit Based Teams are an excellent example of our partnership at work. With continued dedication, we will realize Kaiser Permanente's mission to improve the health of our members and the communities we serve.
