SEIU United Healthcare Workers – West is seeking a versatile, experienced online communications coordinator to join our 16-person communications team to develop and direct the strategic planning, design and implementation of on-line activities, websites and online information management systems. We are looking for a candidate to expand current capabilities to make us a leader in online communication and activism. Our ideal candidate is a strategic thinker who enjoys campaigning, is passionate about social justice, is willing to work hard and can manage complex, fast-paced, deadline-driven projects. |

Responsibilities: |
Planning & Development
- Plan, develop and implement our online communications strategy.
- Collaborates with current Webteam to plan and manage online organizing campaigns and define goals and establish metrics to track success. Identifies primary campaign tools and tactics.
- Regularly evaluates our on-line presence. Measures and optimizes site performance using Google Analytics and other tools. Analyzes and proposes improvements to user experience
- Exploring new tools and technology and proposing appropriate innovations to build online presence.
Data Integration
- Plan and manage project using a contract developer to build data synchronization bridge between membership database (in Access) and online campaign tool (Get Active)
- Oversee migration project (move messaging/advocacy framework from GetActive to Convio
- Create system for tracking and optimizing server and service resources and contracts, domain management.
- Encourages and aggressively promotes the effective use of content management systems, especially Convio, to ensure staff make the best use of all tools provided. Manages training and support for staff.
- Oversees maintenance of a mixed Content Management Systems currently in place and facilitates move to one website application management tool to support all online activities.
- Tracking, gathering and analyzing user data from Web/blog stats and e-mail newsletter reports.
- Analyze web statistics to evaluate campaigns and to maximize online traffic and engagement
- Daily monitoring of website statistics and usage patterns, and monthly online metric reports
- Monitor and distribute e-communications usage reports.
- Manage all email lists and schedule to ensure regular, quality communications.
Staff Management
- Manage production fulfillment: set priorities and delegate production tasks according to communications imperatives. Create and track realistic production timetables.
- Lead team of 3 web communications staff charged with implementing the online communications plan.
- Supervises, directs, develops, and provides general and technical guidance to staff which includes: assigning work and establishing standards; resolving technical issues; ensuring staff training; providing ongoing performance feedback; recommending hiring and promotion decisions.
- Manage outside consultants and vendors as needed
Online Outreach, Marketing and Advocacy
- Develop and implement online PR and advocacy strategies to strengthen our institutional profile, grow our email list, and increase participation in our advocacy campaigns.
- Research, implement and evaluate online PR and marketing activities including blogs, tagging, social networking, viral marketing, search engine marketing, e-actions, text messaging and other forms of electronic communications
- Develop creative strategies to reach diverse audiences via Web sites, online and mobile video, blogs, email, text messages, online social networking, and direct communication
- Coordinate writing of compelling e-mail action alerts, web copy, and materials for our campaigns
- Promotion of UHW’s blogs and online video
Website Development:
- Responsible for coordinating web updates and maintenance to ensure content stays fresh and current
- Oversee the editorial direction of websites with communications team

Qualifications: |
- Bachelor's degree or demonstrated equivalent experience
- At least 5 years experience developing and implementing online communications and organizing efforts
- At least 1 year of experience managing staff or coordinating the work of other staff
- Demonstrated project management skills, including ability to juggle multiple complex tasks under tight deadlines
- Excellent writing, speaking, listening, organizational and relationship building skills
- Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving ability
- Ability to organize time efficiently
- Strong computer and database skills, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access)
- Demonstrated knowledge of HTML, XHTM, CSS and Javascript to edit and layout web pages
- Firm grasp of and experience using CMS and e-advocacy systems. Experience with Convio WSM or GetActive advocacy, messaging and list management tools a plus.
- Experience using web traffic analysis tools such as Google Analytics to evaluate and report on the popularity and effectiveness of campaigns and website content
- Experience using blogs, chat rooms, list-servs, email newsletters and other tools for online organizing
- Experience using various online marketing techniques
- Experience working with video and audio for Web streaming
- Willingness to work long, irregular hours, including weekends and evenings
