Description:  

SEIU United Healthcare Workers - West, a progressive and growing union (formerly SEIU 399 and SEIU 250), has 152,000 members in California. We are caregivers from every sector of the industry, united to win better care for our patients and better lives for our families and ourselves.

The Researcher conducts in-depth research into companies and issues in the healthcare industry and also helps to develop and implement strategic campaigns in support of the union’s organizing and bargaining activities. 

Responsibilities:

Strategic Campaigns: helping to design and execute campaign strategy and tactics.

Corporate Research: analyzing firm’s line of business and its position within geographic market and industry; compiling firm’s history and current developments; evaluating firm’s finances and business plan; and utilizing industry’s regulatory structure.

Legal & Policy Research: evaluating legal and policy issues related to industry.

General Support: providing research assistance to support the union’s various divisions.

Writing & Communication: producing position papers and other research materials to educate our members, the general public, policy makers and the news media.

Qualifications:

Strong commitment to the labor movement and social justice work;

Investigative research experience, including industry, corporate and issue research;

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to plan, research, write and edit quality research projects;

Ability to research, strategize and implement plans in the context of a campaign;

Ability to take initiative, to work with a team, and to handle multiple projects and tight deadlines;

Quantitative analytical skills, including familiarity with basic financial concepts and financial analysis;

Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet and database work;

Willingness to work long, irregular hours, often including weekends and evenings.
