BLOG: It Hurts Me Like It’s My Own Family

There is so much abuse when it comes to immigrants in this country – especially Mexican immigrants.

It hurts me to see the hard life that many are forced to live. People work in the fields and get paid the very minimum. Families are torn apart and separated for decades.

That’s why I joined the “Keeping Families Together” bus tour. Together with other California working families, we’re making stops in communities all over the state to tell the stories of families separated by broken immigration policies.

Earlier this week, we stopped by Congressman Jeff Denham’s office in Fresno to talk about passing comprehensive immigration reform. We pressed on the importance of immigration reform to families in the Central Valley and the awful consequences of what happens if Congress chooses not to act.

Congress has talked about changes to immigration for years – but now is our time. Fathers and mothers have to leave their kids here in America while they go back to their home country. These are good people simply looking for a better life.

President Obama actually sees that we need reform. Though some may have lost hope, it’s up to us to keep fighting for them – just as if our family was on the line.
