UHW to host free back-to-school wellness festival in Oakland

[September 20, 2013] OAKLAND, Calif. – With the school year underway and the launch of Obamacare just 10 days away, local members of SEIU-United Healthcare Workers West (SEIU-UHW) are inviting students and their families to a rollicking festival featuring live entertainment, a backpack giveaway, games and face painting for kids, testing for diabetes, high blood pressure and respiratory illnesses, and a chance to learn how to enroll in Obamacare.

The free and public event will also offer educational activities for children and their families about healthy eating and exercise, in addition to relay races, rock climbing, prizes, a photo booth, and a raffle. Food trucks will be on site, and live entertainment features pianist and lyricist Kev Choice, soul and rhythm and blues singer Khela, disc jockey Jon Williams, and rhythm and blues artist Tracy Cruz.

WHAT:
Back to school wellness festival open to the public, and sponsored by SEIU-United Healthcare Workers West (SEIU-UHW) features health screenings, backpack giveaways, children’s games, prizes, raffle, and live entertainment.
