Lyles began his career at CHW Northridge Hospital Medical Center (now Dignity Northridge Hospital Medical Center) as a respiratory care practitioner, where he served for more than 37 years.
A longtime activist, Lyles pioneered the effort to unionize the Catholic Healthcare West hospital system (now Dignity Health) in 2001. He went on to lead in his hospital as an SEIU-UHW steward and bargaining team member, as well as represent his coworkers in the CHW Labor Management Committee and patient care committee. Within SEIU-UHW, Lyles has served as an Executive Board member, and representative on the union’s bylaws committee and Union Wide Organizing Committee.
Elected Vice President in 2011 and re-elected in 2014 and 2017, Lyles directly oversees SEIU-UHW’s finances and budgeting and actively works with SEIU-UHW’s 300-member Executive Board and thousands of healthcare workers across California to improve the healthcare system, provide quality care for all patients, expand access to excellent, affordable healthcare for all Californians, and improve living standards for all workers.
