[May 19, 2015] SACRAMENTO, Calif. – A coalition of doctors, nurses, hospitals, workers, health clinics, dentists, emergency responders and insurers announced today that it will hold a massive rally at the state capitol June 2, with more than 5,000 people calling on Gov. Jerry Brown and state legislators to fully fund Medi-Cal and bring payments to providers in line with the rates paid by Medicare.
The event, called “Medi-Cal Matters,” will be held on the West Side of the capitol from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. It will include more than 100 busloads of health professionals – including hospital administrators, physicians, nurses and frontline health workers – from every region of the state (SEE LIST BELOW for departure cities).
Medi-Cal provides healthcare coverage to more than 12 million children, seniors and people with disabilities in California. Yet, the state ranks 48th in the nation in how much it pays doctors and other health care providers for treating Medi-Cal patients. As a result, millions of patients are forced to wait months to get basic healthcare, driving great distances or resorting to emergency rooms for primary healthcare needs.
