Millions of Californians are getting a raise on January 1st thanks to the leadership of SEIU-UHW members. The new minimum wage goes up to $10.50 an hour for businesses with 26 or more employees.
This wouldn’t have happened without support from union and community members who collected signatures to qualify The Fair Wage Act of 2016 on the November ballot. Together, we raised our voices and let the Governor know that the people of California were ready for $15.
In response to our ballot initiative, Governor Brown signed a $15 minimum wage bill into law stating, “The initiative put on the ballot by SEIU gave a real thrust, Without that, we probably wouldn’t be here today. Let’s be clear about that.”
