Day 1: OC Healthcare Workers and Patients Call on Congress to Preserve Vital Healthcare Funding

SEIU-UHW Member at the rally to protect healthcare for seniors and children. With only a few weeks until Congress decides if it will make huge cuts to Medicare and Medi-Cal, more than 100 healthcare workers from across Orange County joined residents, families and community members outside U.S. Rep. Ed Royce’s office to call on the Congressman to protect the health and safety of seniors and children.

The rally was the first day of three days of events in Orange County, Sacramento and Fresno.

All three are sponsored by a coalition of healthcare workers and patients, along with faith and other community leaders who are concerned by potential cuts that would eliminate healthcare delivery in our communities, and jobs in hospitals and other healthcare facilities.

“Our hospital has already told us that huge cuts to Medicare will force them to close entire floors at our facility. Cuts to these programs would be devastating for our patients, who have no where else to go for care.”

“Medicare and Medicaid produce millions of good jobs in the healthcare industry and provide a safety net for our most vulnerable community members. Congress should not pass up an opportunity to protect and create good jobs.”
