In Memory of Doris Chibuko, Killed in the Tragic Oikos University Shooting

The members of SEIU-UHW mourn Doris Chibuko after she was senselessly killed Monday morning at Oikos University in East Oakland. She leaves behind a large family and three small children.

Chibuko, 40, was a lawyer in her native Nigeria and was in the midst of launching a second career in nursing, eight months into a one-year vocational program, and served as class president.

She was also a member of SEIU-UHW. She was employed as a mental health worker at the Villa Fairmont Mental Health Rehabilitation Center. Everyone at Telecare is mourning her loss.

Her mother, Victoria Achu, spoke to the San Jose Mercury News about her daughter:

“She was a very kind girl, generous. And very prayerful,” Achu said. “I would like people to pray for her.”

Another SEIU-UHW Member, Grace Kirika, was injured in the shooting.
