Caregivers set rally for Thursday at Piedmont Gardens in Oakland

Employees to Stand Up for Quality Resident Care After Nursing Home Management Fires and Permanently Replaces 38 Employees

OAKLAND – Hundreds of caregivers at Piedmont Gardens and their supporters will rally at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, August 12, to support quality resident care and stand behind 38 caregivers who were illegally fired when they tried to return to work Saturday after a 5-day unfair labor practice strike.

The workers are members of the Service Employees International Union – United Healthcare Workers West (SEIU-UHW). They went on strike at the nursing home over management’s violation of federal labor laws. The workers have made common-sense proposal including modest economic improvements, but management has insisted on regressive proposals that put workers and care at risk.
