Let’s Get Ready for Obamacare: Healthcare Enrollment Project
In 2014, 5 million Californians will become eligible for healthcare coverage thanks to ObamaCare. But low-income Latinos and other communities of color who are most likely to benefit from the new healthcare law are also the hardest to reach and least likely to connect to coverage. We’re out to change that!
Through a grant from the California Endowment, SEIU-UHW members have been working in two South Los Angeles zip codes to find, screen, and enroll people for public healthcare programs like Medi-Cal and Healthy Families. They’ve also surveyed South LA residents to learn about the obstacles they have faced in seeking healthcare coverage in the past. Here’s what we learned about the obstacles to healthcare coverage.
So far, we have enrolled more than 1,000 people into healthcare coverage!
Work to eliminate the obstacles so that everyone can connect to coverage in 2014
