Our members are frontline caregivers, including respiratory care practitioners, dietary, environmental services and nursing staff who keep Californians healthy.
We live and work through out California from the Bay Area to Sacramento and Los Angeles to the Central Valley.

Our union of healthcare workers is driven to improve the healthcare system. Our mission is to provide quality care for all patients, expand access to excellent, affordable healthcare for all Californians and improve living standards for all workers.

About us

Hospitals:

The majority of SEIU-UHW members work in the state’s largest private sector health systems’ hospitals and clinics, including Kaiser Permanente, Catholic Healthcare West, Sutter Health, Tenet, Prime and Daughters of Charity, as licensed vocational nurses, radiologic technologists, lab technicians, respiratory care practitioners, certified nurse assistants, dietary and housekeeping staff.

Nursing Homes:

SEIU-UHW represents about 9,000 nursing home workers who are licensed vocational nurses, certified nurse assistants, dietary and housekeeping staff in the state’s largest nursing home chains, including Country Villa and Windsor.

Home Care Providers:

More than 60,000 SEIU-UHW members in 11 counties (Amador, Calaveras, Contra Costa, Fresno, Marin, Sacramento, San Francisco, San Joaquin, Sonoma, Yolo and Yuba) work as home care providers in the state’s In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) program. They provide essential support to seniors and people with disabilities who rely on home care so they can live at home longer and stay out of more expensive institutions.
