UHW HOMECARE MEMBERS FIGHT FOR  THE FUTURE OF HOMECARE

UHW-W Homecare Division leaders deliver our Platform for Change petitions representing 12,2000 members to the Homecare Council meeting in Los Angeles. Read More (PDF Download)

Thousands of California's most vulnerable residents, seniors and people with disabilities, rely on homecare workers to assist them with daily tasks such as eating, bathing and dressing so they can live safely, with independence and dignity in their own homes.

A PROGRESS REPORT ON THE PLATFORM FOR CHANGE

The homecare division is moving forward vigorously with the Platform for Change for homecare workers to organize and take charge of their future. We piloted the training program at the Leadership Conference, with over 90 homecare leaders attending the Platform for Change workshop. Since the Leadership Conference we have offered over 60 classes in nine counties, with an attendance of over 650. Our goal is to train 5,000 members over the course of the next seven months and to be able to quickly mobilize 10,000 members for campaigns.

At the end of the training session, participants sign a pledge to work for the Platform for Change. They agree to call 10 to 20 other homecare workers who live in their zip code to ask them to sign the pledge and petition, and to attend an upcoming Platform for Change class. We have collected approximately over 12,000 signatures so far. The trainers are doing intensive follow-up with the member leaders to make sure they have the support they need to communicate effectively with the other homecare workers.
