myUHW Tenet

.....................................................................................................

Welcome to your Tenet myUHW page. You can find the information and updates that matter to you.

SEIU-UHW member-leaders from Tenet and former Tenet facilities across California met in Los Angeles on Saturday, July 11th, to share stories and move forward to improve pay, staffing, and patient care at our hospitals.

Recently, outside organizations have been working hard to divide us, weakening us with management. But now we're working hard, and... <>together we are standing strong in SEIU-UHW, rebuilding our union.

Our Raises Are Coming!

The raises negotiated in our SEIU-UHW contract are coming at the end of July.

Our raises are between 3% and 9.25%, depending on where each of us is on the pay scale. SEIU-UHW members negotiated these raises into our contract. It was voted on and approved by members in 2007. Our raises have nothing to do with any outside pressure or groups. It's something that SEIU-UHW members negotiated into our current union contract.

We Won Raises of 18 Percent at Alameda

Let's Stay Strong and United in UHW-SEIU Like Alameda Hospital Members

Winning Big: Raises 18 percent

"Our contract is a true demonstration of member-driven negotiation. We stayed committed and united against all distractions. Our membership is amazing. Our unity and support for the bargaining team made all the difference. Our victory is an example of what all UHW-SEIU members can continue to win by coming together and focusing on what's really important to us and our families."

--Rex Dizon, Alameda Hospital

Because Alameda Hospital members stuck together in UHW-SEIU, they won:

  • Pay increases of 18 percent, including a retroactive increase of three percent
  • Increased shift differential pay
  • Premium pay for LVNs and central supply techs with certification
  • Cancellation and call-off system based on seniority
  • Fully paid medical benefits for employees
  • Increases to the retirement and pension rate

In these tough economic times, we need to stay strong and united in UHW-SEIU.

Don't sign petitions or cards to decertify our union or to revoke dues. This weakens us and puts our contract and job protections at risk.

United in UHW-SEIU, hospital workers are winning big in these uncertain times--fighting layoffs and winning new contracts. Just take a look...

Raises, Rewards, Respect for UHW Members in Modesto

UHW-SEIU members who work for Hospital Housekeeping Systems at Tenet's Doctor's Medical Center of Modesto just won BIG improvements to pay, benefits, and respect on the job in their new contract. This is our FIRST contract with HHS, yet members won raises of 3.5 to 7.5 percent, a wage scale to reward experience, call-in pay, new shift differentials, and improvements to the call-off and cancellation system, and more.

SEIU UHW members who work for Hospital Housekeeping Systems at Tenet's Doctor's Medical Center of Modesto just won BIG improvements to pay, benefits, and respect on the job. The rank-and-file members of our bargaining team stood together with their co-workers and won a great new contract. SEIU UHW Helped Get My Job Back

Flora_Patterson_CNA_Lakewood2.jpg

Flora Patterson, CNA

"After working at Lakewood Regional Medical Center for 13 years as a CNA, I was fired without warning. I didn't get a paycheck for more than 8 months.

But because of the strength of our union, and our contract, I got my job back--and I'm getting back pay too! This is why we originally formed our union back in 2003--to stand together for each other and our patients. I know what it was like before we had a union, and how hard we struggled to form our union. I'll never work without a union again!"

Dear Brother Rosselli, Sister Emslie and Brother Rodriguez:

I received a letter from your office dated January 12, 2009 to President Stern which mistakenly asserts that the SEIU International is "talking to Tenet about concessions in California." I want to assure you that this is absolutely not true. The International Union has not -- and is not currently -- engaging Tenet without the leadership involvement of any SEIU local that represents Tenet workers, including UHW-W.

The International Union has a history of working closely with the leadership of the locals representing Tenet workers. For example, last year, as you know, the International Union worked closely with UHW-W and 121RN on Tenet's sale of the Encino-Tarzana Regional Medical Center. Our combined efforts ensured that the interests of our members were protected in that transaction.

Recently, Tenet contacted leaders at SEIU International, Florida Healthcare Union, 121RN and, as you note in your letter, UHW-W, requesting a meeting to discuss Tenet's current financial condition. As a courtesy to Tenet, on January 15, 2009, elected leaders of the Florida Healthcare Union--FHU's Secretary-Treasurer and worker leaders elected to FHU's executive board, along with legal counsel and FHU's Division Director--met with Tenet to hear the company's economic presentation. This was not a bargaining session, but rather a listening session only.

The FHU leaders made clear to Tenet that they were representing only their Florida members. There is no basis for believing that this meeting involved the Tenet-California contract in any respect. It did not.

I trust that you will provide this response to the UHW-W members in the Tenet Hospitals

Sincerely,

Mary Kay Henry, SEIU
Executive Vice President
