Stan Lyles is vice president of SEIU-United Healthcare Workers West (SEIU-UHW), a union that represents 120,000 hospital and clinics workers in California. Lyles also serves on the SEIU International Executive Board Union Board of Auditors.
Lyles began his career at Catholic Healthcare West Northridge Hospital Medical Center (now CommonSpirit/Dignity Northridge Hospital Medical Center) as a respiratory care practitioner, where he served for more than 37 years.
A longtime union activist, Lyles pioneered the effort to unionize the Catholic Healthcare West (CHW) hospital system in 2001. He went on to lead in his hospital as an SEIU-UHW steward and bargaining team member, as well as represent his coworkers in the CHW Labor Management Committee and patient care committee. Within SEIU-UHW, Lyles has served as an Executive Board member, and representative on the union’s bylaws committee and Union Wide Organizing Committee.
Currently serving his fifth term as vice president, Lyles directly oversees SEIU-UHW’s finances and budgeting and actively works with SEIU-UHW’s 274-member Executive Board and thousands of healthcare workers across California to improve the healthcare system, provide quality care for all patients, expand access to excellent, affordable healthcare for all Californians, and improve living standards for all workers.
