Union stewards are the backbone of SEIU-UHW. A steward is a member leader working in our facility who provides support, guidance, and representation for union members in meetings with management to ensure we have a strong voice in our facilities and our rights on the job are respected.

Education Ambassadors
Our Education Ambassadors are union member leaders who are passionate about preparing the next generation of healthcare workers. Whether you are looking to get started in healthcare or trying to advance in the industry, these leaders empower others to take the next steps in their education journey and lead them into a fulfilling healthcare career. Education Ambassador duties include:
- Tabling events at hospitals, schools, political events, and non-profit organizations;
- Promoting education opportunities at union meetings and future student orientations;
- Working with management to develop experiential learning opportunities for union members;
- Guiding Futuro Health applicants through the enrollment process and resolving issues.

Political Leaders
Healthcare is affected by decisions made at every level of government. That’s why it’s important healthcare workers have a strong voice in politics. Our political power is built day by day when SEIU-UHW members take action to support our political programs (like winning the first and only $25-an-hour healthcare minimum wage in the U.S.). Political Leaders connect with lawmakers in their districts to bring the voices of union members into the political process. A Political Leader is someone who:
- Builds union members’ personal relationships with lawmakers;
- Educates members on the link between our political work and improved standards for healthcare workers;
- Builds our electoral capacity to talk to union members and voters; and
- Helps plan campaigns as a part of the Political Committee.

Digital Leaders
SEIU-UHW Digital Leaders are active on social media, using their own platforms to build union solidarity and improve conditions for healthcare workers. They post about union activities, repost content, and help drive online organizing efforts. A Digital Leader is someone who:
- Is active on social media;
- Creates content (or wants to learn) to engage and mobilize members;
- Shares and engages with SEIU-UHW social media posts to amplify our message; and
- Ready to learn about using digital tools and strategies to support union organizing.
