I think I would be a good candidate for the Board as I’ve been a Steward for 13 of my 15 years at Kaiser. In 2010, I was elected to bargain the Local Agreement. I have also been a Chief Shop Steward. This year I was a Strike Captain, and participated in civil disobedience. I believe in the fundamental fact that we, the members, are the union. That we as members need to step up to help run our union. That every voice matters and everyone needs to be heard. If elected to the Board, I promise to bring the voice of the members forward and not my own opinions or agenda.
As a four-time kidney transplant patient, I believe in healthcare justice. That all people should have the right to healthcare. I don’t believe pre-existing conditions should prevent you from affording or getting health insurance. In this political climate, I’m concerned about the future of healthcare and healthcare workers. I believe in winning dialysis workers their own union. I think the steps we’ve taken forcing Kaiser to be more transparent with their finances helps to make our bargaining position stronger and protects our patients from increasing costs.
