I was inspired 20 years ago when I first started as a clerical temp worker and later as an organizer of this local. I quickly saw the awesome power of this union to transform workers’ lives at work and at home, and the transformation leaders go through when they realize that they have the ability to impact even the larger world around them. This inspiration has fueled my work to organize non-union healthcare workers and to develop leadership in the members, soon-to-be members and staff I’ve had the privilege to work with. I look forward to building upon this work and creating an even more powerful union of workers, patients and healthcare consumers as a member of the Healthcare Justice slate. I believe that patients and consumers of healthcare should feel empowered, safe and cared for. I believe that healthcare workers should be honored and rewarded for their work. All of this is only possible when patients, consumers and workers come together to speak with one powerful voice in this union to hold healthcare corporations accountable to patients and workers, and to influence elected leaders to keep healthcare safe, accessible and affordable for us all.
