As a union member of 20 years, I’ve been an active leader since 2012. I’ve been a part of bargaining in multiple contract fights that have protected healthcare, retirement and steady wage increases for Dignity Health workers. I’ve helped organize coworkers and hospital systems into the union so they might too have a voice in their workplace and community. In my region I’ve trained hundreds of stewards and union representatives in successful grievance writing and contract interpretation to uphold our rights as healthcare workers. And I will continue to fight from the Sacramento Capitol to Washington DC to ensure healthcare workers have a voice and the communities we serve have the best available care.
All that work I listed before means I have talked to a lot of healthcare workers. What I have heard over and over again is an anxiety about the future: retirement, wanting to afford starting a family, stopping layoffs, or fighting increasing workloads. Sound familiar to you? Healthcare Justice is about defining what’s right by everyone – patients and coworkers, our families and our communities, and fighting for what’s right. As your Executive Board member, I’ll help us keep fighting.
