Healthcare Workers in 11 Cities Across CA to Rally August 25 in Support of Bill to Ensure California Has the PPE It Needs to Keep Workers Safe in Any Future Health Crisis

Legislation Would Require State, Health Providers to Stockpile PPE at Pandemic Levels for Healthcare, Other Essential Workers

Healthcare Workers Will Also Hold Media Availability

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. – Healthcare and other essential workers across California, who during the COVID-19 crisis have been put in danger by a lack of personal protective equipment (PPE), will rally in 11 cities across California August 25, including at Kaiser Permanente Walnut Creek Medical Center and El Camino Hospital in Mountain View, to support SB 275 in the California legislature that would ensure the state of California and healthcare providers, including hospitals, have a pandemic-level PPE stockpile available should a future health emergency strike.

“Never again can we find ourselves being forced to choose between our own lives, our families’ lives and our patients’ lives because we don’t have enough protective equipment to do our jobs safely,” said Liz Grigsby, a respiratory therapist at Kaiser Roseville Medical Center. “Almost 30,000 California healthcare workers have gotten the virus and over  140 have died – along with countless more first responders and other essential workers. We  simply cannot fail to pass this legislation, and shame on us if we don’t learn from the failures of  the current pandemic.”
