Workers at 11 Tenet Healthcare Hospitals in CA Reach Contract Settlement

New Agreement Addresses Pandemic Safety, PPE, and Workplace Health and Safety Protocols

For Immediate Release:
December 11, 2020

OAKLAND, Calif. – Workers at 11 Tenet Healthcare hospitals in California have reached a tentative settlement in contract negotiations with the health system that addresses pandemic safety, a top issue for frontline healthcare workers who continue to risk their lives caring for patients with COVID-19.

“This agreement was possible because we as a union stood together to improve safety protocols — and to advocate for wages and benefits that reflect the hard work we do every day for our patients, said Gisella Thomas, a respiratory therapist at Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs. “In a time of crisis like the pandemic, being able to speak with one voice gives unionized hospital employees the strong voice we need to stand up for our patients, our families and ourselves.

The agreement includes:

  • Comprehensive pandemic safety measures such as quarantine pay, worker support and lodging, and compliance with California Assembly Bill 2537 on PPE guidelines
  • 3% yearly raises
  • Raises minimum pay rate to $19.50 per hour
  • Maintains healthcare and other benefits
  • Increases to standby pay
