An Open Letter to Our Co-workers
We are your co-workers at Sharp Staffing Resource Network — and like you, we know that major changes are needed with our jobs.
We’re treated like second-class workers. Our pay is far below what other healthcare workers in this region earn, our medical insurance is far too expensive, and our PTO accrual is unfair. We’re regularly passed over for full-time and part-time positions in favor of less qualified applicants. We’re forced to take on the toughest assignments, and we often go without breaks. Many of us are experiencing physical fatigue and mental burnout, yet Sharp management refuses to address this crisis.
We cannot wait to confront these problems. We must vote to join SEIU–United Healthcare Workers West right away. SEIU-UHW is one of the largest unions of healthcare workers in the country with 110,000 members who have a track record of winning higher wages, increased staffing, and a strong voice on the job.
Over 5,000 Sharp workers across this region have already voted to join SEIU-UHW — and then went on to bargain a strong contract with major pay raises, wage scales, affordable healthcare coverage, retirement security, and a strong voice on the job. Management is getting increasingly desperate in their efforts to stop us from unionizing. They know that as more of us go union across Sharp, we’ll have more power to win for ourselves, our patients, and our loved ones. We must vote to join SEIU-UHW now at Sharp SRN so we can unite as ONE SHARP and maximize our power.
As members of the SEIU-UHW Organizing Committee, we’ve talked to many of you about making improvements at Sharp SRN. Here are some of the things you’ve said we need:
- Raises and wages more in line with the industry standard in this region
- Improved benefits, including affordable healthcare and a secure retirement plan
- A fair process for securing full-time and part-time positions
- A stronger voice so we have a real say on the job
- Fairness and respect from management
Joining together in SEIU-UHW is our best opportunity to fight for and win on these priorities and more.
So on March 12th, we filed for an election with the National Labor Relations Board to make our union official and unite with more than 5,000 other Sharp workers who are already winning in SEIU-UHW. We look forward to getting our election date very soon.
