THURSDAY — FACEBOOK LIVE: Building a More Stable Present and Future

Join our next COVID-19 Facebook Live session this Thursday, April 30 at 5:30 p.m. We’ll talk about how we and our families can find stability during this pandemic and beyond:

Unemployment Benefits: Some of us are getting flexed and having our hours cut during this crisis. And many of us have family who have lost their jobs or had their hours reduced. We’ll walk through the expanded unemployment insurance benefits we or our loved ones may need to provide for our families during this crisis.

Opportunities to Start a Healthcare Career with Futuro Health: So many of us have friends and family who have lost their jobs during this pandemic — jobs that may never come back. This loss creates an opportunity to help them enter the healthcare field. Futuro Health — the organization we created to recruit and train the next generation of caregivers when we fought for and won funding from Kaiser during bargaining — can help. Futuro Health is looking for people interested in taking courses to join the healthcare workforce. Join our Facebook Live Thursday to learn how your loved ones can be part of this opportunity.

Calling Out Bad Hospital Employers: Some of our employers are turning their backs on healthcare heroes during this crisis. We’ll look at the hospitals that are jeopardizing safe patient care and attacking worker wages, benefits, and jobs — and explore what all of us can do to stand up to this corporate greed.

TAKE ACTION NOW Against Bad Hospital Employers

Prime Healthcare

Prime is still trying to take away the essential needs of our essential caregivers by cutting worker sick leave and disability benefits.

Take a few seconds to tweet this message calling out Prime’s attacks on workers, our families, and our patients.

Stanford Health Care

We’re calling out Stanford for attacking healthcare heroes during this pandemic by slashing worker wages by 20% and furloughing staff. Check out this CBS story featuring SEIU-UHW leaders at Stanford Chuck Fonseca and Linda Cornell.

Take action and tweet this message calling out Stanford Health Care’s anti-worker actions and corporate greed.

TODAY’S WARM FUZZY: Teen Gives Back to Caregivers at His Birth Hospital

High school student Jeffrey Zhang (left) and several friends started a GoFundMe campaign to raise money to buy PPE for us and other frontline workers. So far they’ve bought 750 surgical masks and donated them to caregivers at the hospital where Jeffrey was born, El Camino Hospital in Northern CA. Way to join us in fighting this pandemic, Jeffrey and friends!

Send anyone interested in contributing to Jefferey’s campaign to this GoFundMe page.
