To start taking courses at Futuro Health, new applicants will need to meet the following criteria:
- Referred by a member in good standing of SEIU-UHW
- Interested in direct patient care in the Medical Assistant role
- 18 years of age or older, able to work in the U.S., and a resident of California
- Completed high school diploma or GED by Summer 2020
- Computer and internet proficiency with home access to consistent, reliable high-speed internet and a reliable, working computer or laptop
- Willing to commit 3-4 hours per day (estimated at 20+ hours per week) of study time
- Ideal students for Spanish-to-English have “advanced beginner” to “low intermediate” English fluency.
- Non-UHW members are expected to contribute $20/month membership for their education and training
- Accepted Jump Start students will pay a non-refundable $50 registration fee before starting their course
- Until further notice, the $50 registration fee is waived for accepted Spanish-to-English students
Additional Requirements for Medical Assistant Program Applicants:
Students who successfully complete these courses or can demonstrate English fluency and provide transcripts for both Anatomy and Physiology (within the last 5 years from an accredited college or university) and Medical Terminology with a grade of “C” or better are ready to apply to the Medical Assistant program. MA will be a full 11+-month program with extensive in-person clinical coursework that will require:
- Ability to lift and move a minimum of 20 lbs. and stand for long periods of time
- Ability to pass both a drug screen and background check with no felony convictions (a $77 cost)
- Up to date immunizations at student’s expense
- Non-UHW members are expected to contribute $20/month membership for their education and training
- Accepted MA students will pay a non-refundable $100 registration fee before starting the program
