The COVID-19 pandemic has produced the most serious crisis in healthcare in more than 100 years, exacerbating pre-pandemic healthcare staffing shortages. SEIU-United Healthcare Workers West launched a survey of allied healthcare workers to shed light on the state of staffing in California. In addition, a new survey of essential healthcare workers has found that the sustained need to respond to the pandemic’s unprecedented challenges has had a profound negative impact on frontline workers’ mental health.
