We have reached an agreement!

We will be voting to ratify our new contract from December 13 – 15. This tentative agreement includes:

Retroactive from first full pay-period October 2023

Year 1: 5.5% meets expectations. 6.0% exceeds expectations.

Year 2: 5.5% meets expectations. 6.0% exceeds expectations.

Year 3: 5.5% meets expectations. 6.00% exceeds expectations

  • City of Hope agrees to create a new LVN III classification
  • Any employee who is promoted to a higher position will receive a minimum 5% increase
  • City of Hope will provide enhanced medical benefits
  • All employees who are assigned controlled standby will now receive CA minimum wage for all hours on standby.
  • Weekend differential will be increased to $3.50 per hour.

COH Bargaining Update – November 8, 2023

We had two long days of negotiations with City of Hope last Wednesday and Thursday. Unfortunately, we could not reach an agreement. Below is a list of key issues that are outstanding, along with our latest proposal as well as the Hospital’s last proposal:

SEIU-UHW Proposal

  • Increase wage grid by 5.5%
  • Merit increases of 6% for meets expectations and 6.5% for exceeds for the next three years
  • Market equity adjustments
  • Creation of an LVN III classification
  • Increase standby pay to $10.00/ hour for uncontrolled standby
  • Increase weekend differential to $6.00/ hour
  • $100 per month for each certification an employee has
  • Union recognition language
  • Improved Seniority language
  • Ratification bonus of $1500
  • Retro pay to October 1, 2023

COH’s Proposal

  • Increase wage grid by 3.5% in year one, 3% in year two and 3% in year three
  • Merit increases of 5.5% for meets expectations and 6% for exceeds in year one
  • 4.75% for meets expectations and 5.25% for exceeds in year two
  • 4.5% for meets expectations and 5% for exceeds in year three
  • Rejected our proposal to create an LVN III classification
  • Increase standby pay to $8.00/ hour for uncontrolled standby
  • Rejected our proposal to increase weekend differential
  • Rejected our proposal to increase certification premium
  • Rejected our proposal for Union recognition
  • Rejected our proposal for improved seniority language

The Hospital asked for time to review some additional proposals we presented last Thursday. They asked for a 30-day extension, which the team granted. The extension of the CBA is to December 1, 2023. We are confirming additional bargaining dates.
