All of us at Sharp HospiceCare work hard every day to do the best job possible for our patients, build a strong spirit of community, and provide a good life for our families.

But it’s becoming harder and harder for us to do our jobs and take care of our loved ones. Our wages are too low for all the work we do, the flexing and scheduling systems are unfair, and staffing levels are unsafe and force us to struggle to provide the best care for our patients.

These problems have grown even worse throughout the COVID pandemic. We’re forced to take on more work in more dangerous conditions with fewer staff.

Let’s win a better future by joining the 1,500 healthcare workers at Sharp Grossmont Hospital who just voted to unite in SEIU–United Healthcare Workers West. SEIU-UHW is one of the largest unions of healthcare workers in the country with over 100,000 members who have a track record of winning higher wages, increased staffing, and a strong voice on the job to address workplace problems.

As members of the SEIU-UHW Organizing Committee, we’ve talked to many of you about making improvements at Sharp HospiceCare. Here are some of the things you’ve said we need:

STRONG RAISES AND WAGES that compensate us fairly for our hard work

FIX FLEXING so we have a fair flexing rotation and stop forcing us to use PTO to make up hours lost to flexing

FAIR SCHEDULING — restore procedures for more consistent schedules and respect seniority when making shift assignments

INCREASED STAFFING LEVELS so we have coverage for all our shifts, are able to take our vacation time, and have enough staff to provide safe care for all our patients

Joining together in SEIU-UHW is our best opportunity to fight for and win on these priorities and more. So on March 2nd, we filed for our election with the National Labor Relations Board to make our union official and start achieving these goals. We look forward to getting our election date very soon.

Let’s win a better future together at Sharp HospiceCare. Let’s unite in SEIU-UHW!

In Unity,

Your Co-workers on the SEIU-UHW Organizing Committee at Sharp HospiceCare
