Healthcare Workers in Bakersfield Vote to Join SEIU-UHW

[April 19, 2018] BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – Healthcare workers recently voted to improve patient care at three outpatient clinics operated by Dignity Health Medical Foundation in Bakersfield, Calif. by joining SEIU-United Healthcare Workers West (SEIU-UHW), a union of more than 93,000 healthcare workers across California.

“Our goal is to provide the best patient care and now we have a stronger voice to make sure that happens every day,” said Leilani Stover, a Lead Medical Assistant at Dignity Health Medical Foundation. “Having a real say in staffing and patient care will help improve care for the entire community.”

The vote applies to 40 workers, including medical assistants, radiology technologists, ultrasound technologists and medical office representatives.

Nearly 1,600 healthcare workers in Bakersfield are members of SEIU-UHW: 861 at Bakersfield Memorial Hospital and 733 at the Mercy Hospitals of Bakersfield.
