I’m an SEIU-UHW member and an LPT at Sharp Mesa Vista. I’ve worked at Sharp for over 26 years. I was even born at Sharp! Everything I do comes from a deep love of this community and the knowledge that what I’m doing now sets up a better future for my four grandchildren.

My fellow SEIU-UHW members across Sharp are so excited about your upcoming union election. We can’t wait to welcome you into our union!

Over 5,000 SEIU-UHW members like me have already won one unified contract at Sharp with huge raises, fair wage scales, more affordable healthcare coverage, a real pathway to retirement security, and a strong voice in staffing and patient care. You all deserve the same — and Sharp management knows that if you vote to join SEIU-UHW, you’ll win all that now and even bigger improvements in the future.

As a result, management is getting increasingly desperate to stop you from joining SEIU-UHW. They understand that as more and more Sharp workers go union, we become a bigger and bigger threat to their power and their profits. They understand that when you unionize at Coronado — and when SharpCare, SRN, and Rees-Stealy do the same — we’ll all have maximum power to win even more for ourselves, our patients, and our families.

So now Sharp management is resorting to lies, threats, and intimidation to try to stop you from unionizing. My fellow SEIU-UHW members at Sharp have seen this before. Management did exactly the same to us during elections at Sharp Grossmont, HospiceCare, Chula Vista, and Metropolitan Campus.

For example, during those previous elections, management insisted that they would never agree to one unified contract for all SEIU-UHW members at Sharp. They said it was “illegal.” That was a lie. We just won one unified contract for all of us. They told us that they would never agree to fair wage scales or more affordable benefits. That was a lie. Our new contract has all that and more.

Now Sharp is telling you a lot of falsehoods about how much union dues will cost and promising you better pay if you don’t unionize. They said those same things to us. Sharp has never taken any interest in how we’re doing financially. But when we unionize, they’ll say anything to try to stop us.

Don’t fall for it. The only way you’ll have the power to improve your jobs and your lives is by voting YES to join me and over 5,000 other Sharp co-workers in SEIU-UHW.

My co-workers and I can’t wait for you all to join us in SEIU-UHW. Together we’ll walk side by side into a better future across Sharp!
