March 27, 2020:

PPE SHORTAGE: The Surge is Coming — But Where’s Our PPE?

This raw video from a healthcare worker shows how dire our PPE shortages are.

The COVID-19 surge is hitting our hospitals — and we STILL don’t have the PPE we need from the federal government. Click here to learn more, take action, and demand the equipment and supplies we need to guide our state through this crisis.

CHILDCARE & ELDERCARE: What Do YOU Need?

For many of us, today marks DAY 10 of our children being out of school and sheltered-at-home. But where is the child care support that we need as healthcare workers struggling to come to work everyday to  heal our patients? Click here to share your specific childcare and eldercare needs so we can push our electeds to get us help.

HEALTH ALERT: Should You Be Working From Home?

Many of us need to be at work to provide patient care and make sure our facilities are cleaned and supplied. But some of us do important work that can be done at home — and SEIU-UHW members have been aggressively advocating for those staff to be allowed to do so. The majority of Kaiser Call Center workers and all of the CommonSpirit Health (Dignity) coders and patient financial services departments will be working from home — making thousands of workers safer.  If you believe your work could be done from home but your employer won’t allow it, contact your SEIU-UHW steward or representative.

HEALTHCARE WORKERS NEEDED AT EMERGENCY HOSPITALS

We are working with the State of California to open previously closed hospitals to meet the surge — including St. Vincent Medical Center in L.A. If you know another healthcare worker who is interested in a job at an emergency center, click here.
