Political power doesn’t just happen, it’s built day-by-day when SEIU-UHW members take action to support the political program and connect with elected leaders. Here are some of the ways members are taking action to strengthen our political power.
COPE Ninjas: This is a member program that trains leaders one the connection of political work and raising standards for workers. Builds leaders’ capacity to talk to members about COPE and provides an opportunity to build leadership on political work. The COPE Ninja blitzes are scheduled throughout the year.
Leaders to Lawmakers: This is a program focused on building UHW members direct relationships with legislators to advocate for UHW priorities. In building these relationships, leaders are building power for all UHW members. This is a year-round program.
Election Leader Program: This is a lost time program during election season. The goals are provide opportunities to build members’ leadership on political work, build understanding of the connection between electing candidates or passing initiatives to our local union priorities, and build and expand our capacity to talk to voters and members during in-person and remote phone banking. This program is run every election cycle.
Political Leadership Committee: This a committee of appointed Executive Board members to act as the pod liaison for all political programming, develop and provide input on campaign/program planning, support connecting political work to Strengthening our Voice, political programming recruitment and support to meet goals. This committee is led by the statewide Executive Committee on Politics and the Political Director.
