TAKE ACTION Against a Bad Employer

We’re all worried about the well-being of ourselves and our families during this pandemic — and some employers are adding to our worry by using this crisis as a chance to attack our pay, benefits, and job security. That’s exactly what Prime Healthcare is doing. Instead of working with us to optimize safety like many other employers, Prime management is doing the opposite: Refusing to address safety concerns with us and instead pushing to cut worker healthcare benefits, seniority rights, education, and training. Prime is also trying to keep wages far lower than other local hospitals — nearly 60% lower for some job classes.

Take a few seconds to stand with our union brothers and sisters by calling out Prime’s unsafe and anti-worker actions: Share this post on Facebook.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Temporary Lodging for Healthcare Workers

Statewide

We urged Governor Newsom to address our dire housing needs and he took action by rolling out a program that provides hotel rooms for healthcare workers who have been exposed to or tested positive for COVID-19. These rooms are close to our facilities and allow us to avoid spreading the virus to our loved ones and our communities when we leave our shifts. Click here to learn more and begin the application process.

Kaiser Members

Remember that you have additional temporary lodging benefits as well as up to $300 a week in childcare stipends and 80 additional hours of administrative leave for workers who test positive for COVID-19 or are awaiting results. Click here to learn more about all these Kaiser benefits and for application instructions.

SPEAK OUT: We Will NOT be Second-Class Citizens

For weeks radiology techs at Kaiser South Sacramento were told by managers to enter the rooms of PUI and COVID-19 patients with only a surgical mask, even though the doctors and nurses in those same rooms had N95 masks! But we joined together as union members and spoke out against this inequality that put us and our loved ones at risk — and now this is what the sign in the radiology office says:

Speaking up together gets results. Let’s all keep using our surge checklist to identify and call out hospital practices that put you and your patients in danger!
