COVID-19 Update: May 1, 2020

WATCH Thursday’s Facebook Live broadcast

On our Facebook Live broadcast yesterday, we tackled critical questions about how we and our families can find financial stability during the COVID-19 pandemic.

SEIU-UHW President Dave Regan was joined by our fellow healthcare workers – Linda Cornell from Stanford Healthcare and Sonya-Allen Smith from Kaiser-Oakland – to talk about how we’re fighting back against hours cuts, how to take advantage of expanded unemployment insurance benefits, and new healthcare education opportunities through Futuro Health.

Tell Stanford and Prime Healthcare:
Healthcare Heroes Deserve Respect NOT Hours and Benefits Cuts

Prime Healthcare

Prime is still trying to take away the essential needs of our essential caregivers by cutting worker sick leave and disability benefits.

Tweet out this message calling out Prime’s attacks on workers and our families. https://ctt.ec/0zQJK

Stanford Health Care

We’re calling out Stanford for its decision to slash worker wages by 20% and furlough staff during this pandemic.

Tweet out this message to tell Stanford Health to treat healthcare heroes with respect. https://ctt.ec/Q2af4

EVS Workers Speaking Up for Safety on the Job

EVS workers across the state have been speaking up to make our jobs safer. We’re winning changes including more social distancing in our huddles. Hospital floors like the one above at Kaiser LAMC are being marked so we can meet at a safe distance.

Grow Your Inner Resilience

Speaking out about our safety concerns and dealing with the stress of the COVID-19 pandemic is taking a toll on all of us. Next week, we’re launching The Resilience Toolkit, a resource to help all of us increase our capacity to meet and recover from stress during this difficult time. Through a combination of video modules and live Zoom and Facebook sessions, The Resilience Toolkit will help us identify our symptoms of stress and give us the skills to better face our stress and grow our inner resilience. Join us for the kickoff session on Facebook Live at 5:30 p.m., Tuesday, May 5.
