About SEIU UHW

With over 2 million Californians out of work, healthcare workers need a union with the strength to protect your jobs and benefits. The SEIU United Healthcare Workers-West (SEIU UHW) is the largest and most powerful healthcare union in the western United States.

SEIU UHW was formed on January 1, 2005 after the members of Local 250 in Northern California and Local 399 in Southern California overwhelmingly voted to unify. Our 150,000+ members work in every facet of the healthcare industry, including hospitals, clinics, nursing homes and homecare.

We are affiliated with the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), with more than 2 million workers nationwide.

Political Action, Political Victories

Our members have fought hard on the job for unprecedented standards and a high quality of care. And our members have the most powerful political voice for workers and healthcare in the state of California.

In the 2008 elections, SEIU UHW mobilized thousands of members to phonebank, knock on doors, and get out the vote. We played a key role across the state in electing candidates who will fight for working people, and we helped elect a new President, Barack Obama.
