COVID-19 Update: October 20, 2021

10-20-2021

Welcome to #Striketober:
More and more workers are fed up with how they’ve been treated during the pandemic. The hashtag #Striketober is trending, and it’s not hard to see why. Workers are walking off the job at Kellogg’s, in the entertainment industry, and of course at our very own Sutter Delta, whose workers just came off of a successful 5-day strike. At Kaiser, we picketed this week at Kaiser Roseville to protest understafffing, and next week we will be picketing next week in support of Stationary Engineers Local 39 who have been on strike for over two weeks already. Unless employers begin to recognize the hardships and sacrifices workers have endured during the pandemic, expect to see more.

Update on Booster Shots:
This week, the FDA is reviewing booster shots for those of us who got the Moderna or Johnson & Johnson vaccines. Expect an update on when those will be available in the coming weeks.

California COVID cases still dropping:
All the mask mandates and vaccine pushes are really paying off.  Despite earlier challenges, as a state we are doing a great job of containing the virus, and California continues to have the lowest new COVID case rate in the nation. Don’t put away that mask yet, though. We don’t want another repeat of this summer.
